We were at the Maker's North 2019 winter market this last Saturday, November 09 and we brought a few prints from the Women Who Break Trail Series and our NEW Northern Ontario print. Here are some snaps from a fantastic day!
Both Anahareo and Lady Prospector postcards were available, various stickers, decals and a 5 pack of greeting cards. Sudbury is the city of lakes (330 lakes in total I believe) so we also have a City of Lakes slogan. As well as prints of loons, wind swept trees and more.
We always enjoy the Maker's North Spring and Winter market because we get to meet in person those who follow and support our work, as well as those who support local makers & artists by attending. We finished our Saturday with fresh excitement about projects & ventures that only comes from connecting with others and sharing. Thanks so much for visiting us on a snowy November weekend.
Finally, to welcome winter we have included a Mary Oliver poem below called Starlings in Winter.
The poem is linked to a video of starlings in flight, though there are many you can find to watch online. There are few things so beautiful, nature is full of grace.
Starlings in Winter
By Mary Oliver
Chunky and noisy, but with stars in their black feathers,
they spring from the telephone wire
they are acrobats
in the freezing wind.
And now, in the theater of air,
they swing over buildings,
dipping and rising;
they float like one stippled star
becomes for a moment fragmented,
then closes again;
and you watch
and you try
but you simply can't imagine
how they do it
with no articulated instruction, no pause,
only the silent confirmation
that they are this notable thing,
this wheel of many parts, that can rise and spin
over and over again,
full of gorgeous life.
Ah, world, what lessons you prepare for us,
even in the leafless winter,
even in the ashy city.
I am thinking now
of grief, and of getting past it;
I feel my boots
trying to leave the ground,
I feel my heart
I want to think again of dangerous and noble things.
I want to be light and frolicsome.
I want to be improbable beautiful and afraid of nothing,
as though I had wings.
Happy holidays all!
This weekend we will be taking part in the very first Holiday Market put on by Makers North. Two community artists Tracy Baker and Julieannne Steedman have collobarated to produce a great line up of local artisans, makers and sellers bringing many unique and interesting things to Sudburians!
You can find us at our booth drinking lots of coffee while talking about our newest project The Woodland Notepad ! We are so excited to meet Sudburians and artists alike! Our crazy Gramma will also be visiting our booth, so be sure to say hello to all three of us!
Find more about us at the market here.
Hope to see you there!
